Teach us Your Way: Veteran’s Day Litany

teach-us-banner-pic

Below is a litany written for Veteran’s Day 2016.  The response is from Psalm 86.

On this Sunday after Veteran’s Day, there is need for us all give thanks to our Veterans for their service, for their sacrifices, and for those of their friends and family. The people respond by saying:

Response: God, teach us your way, so that we can walk in your truth.

On this Sunday after Veteran’s Day, there is need for us all, not only to give thanks, but also to seek our Veterans out, and to walk with them and their families in listening, compassion, support and healing where it is needed. The people respond by saying:

Response: God, teach us your way, so that we can walk in your truth.

On this Sunday after Veteran’s Day, there is need for us also to continue our work of co-creating God’s Kingdom of peace and justice, where swords become plowshares, spears become pruning tools, and nations no longer learn how to make war.  The people respond by saying:

Response: God, teach us your way, so that we can walk in your truth.

We pray all these things, with our Veterans in our minds, and the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, on our lips, even as we pray together, saying,…OUR FATHER…AMEN.
