Prayer for Cub Scout Blue & Gold

blue-and-gold-banner-pic

Below is a prayer that was delivered at a Cub Scout “Blue & Gold” banquet.  It could be easily adapted to a variety of settings and circumstances.

Pausing for a moment at the beginning of this Blue and Gold banquet let us still our bodies, quiet our minds, and let us be in a spirit of prayer.

God of the journey…we invite you into our presence this evening…

…to join us as we celebrate the labor…the commitment…

…and the dedication of our young people and their families.

As you have done all along…walk with us tonight…

…as we reflect on their accomplishments…

…and begin again on a new journey that we know not…where it will lead.

At this end which is also a new beginning…

…we take the time to turn our hearts to you with thanksgiving.

We thank you for the Cub Scouts…

…and all those caring leaders, and volunteers and parents…

…who have made it a priority to spend time with these young people…

…to teach, to guide, and to mentor.

We thank you also for the efforts of these youth…

…and for helping them to stay on this path…

…through both the good times and the challenges.

With thanks then God, we ask for your blessings…

…and your guidance…and your reassurance.

We ask that you send us forth from here with new skills, new goals…

…and the feeling of a job well done.

God…we take a moment also this evening…

…to express our gratitude to all who organized and prepared for this occasion…

…and attended to its details.

Bless those who prepared the food and those who serve it.

Bless this food so that is sustains our spirits as well as our bodies.

And bless each one of us, as you find us…as we grow…and as we become.

In your name we pray. Amen.
